Frequently asked questions
We've gathered answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about our programs and services. If you don't find what you're looking for, feel free to reach out. Our administrative staff are always happy to help.
Where are you located?
We're located in Richardson, Texas. Richardson is a city conveniently located 30 minutes from downtown Dallas. There are major highways and accessible transportation options such as DART.
What do I need to apply to HHMI?
In order to fill out our online application, you're going to need to have a few documents handy. We ask for a form of identification (like a driver's license), social security number, and previous education transcripts (like your high school transcripts). International students will need to provide financial statements, a passing English proficiency exam score, and a passport.
How do your payment plans work?
We offer interest-free payment plans designed to help you focus less on paying for school and focus more on your education and training. We offer monthly payment plans, with our lowest plan starting at $300 a month (for 16 months). We are currently not offering FAFSA or government subsidized loans as part of our tuition plans. Payments can be made in person or online through our easy-to-access student portal. We also offer taking payments through Zelle.
What is accreditation and how does that affect my education?
Massage schools in Texas can be licensed, accredited, or both. Healing Hands Massage Institute is accredited by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA), which requires its schools to adhere to and maintain academic excellence standards. Schools that are accredited must meet a minimum job hire rate for post graduates, comply with federal education standards, and ensure minimum exam passing rates. This recognition ensures that students at HHMI are receiving a quality education and learning experience.
Do you offer continuing education courses?
Healing Hands Massage Institute offers continuing education courses not just to alumni, but to outside massage therapists as well! Continuing education courses are required in order to keep your massage therapy license valid, as mandated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). These courses are not a part of the main class schedule, so feel free to contact our administrative staff if you are interested in joining one of our upcoming continuing education courses.
How long is the massage therapy program?
Program length depends on the schedule you choose. Our full-time schedule can be completed in under 3 months, while our morning and evening part-time schedules take about 6 months. We also offer a dedicated Spanish-language schedule that runs approximately 7 months. All schedules cover the same comprehensive curriculum.
How long does it take to enroll?
Once an application has been accepted, it can take as little as a week to fill out all the required paperwork and finalize a student's enrollment. Certain factors can cause your application to become delayed, such as missing information or a rejected payment method. If you have more questions about this process, feel free to reach out to our staff.
Does Healing Hands Massage Institute work with U.S. Veterans?
Absolutely! At HHMI, we work with Veterans Affairs (VA) to help our veterans transition into civilian life with a rewarding career choice in massage therapy. There are a few more steps involved in applying to HHMI as a veteran, so please feel free to visit our veterans page or contact us to learn more about how you can use your GI Bill to enroll in our school.
Does HHMI offer online options?
Yes we do! Our classes are both online and in-person. While there are certain classes, such as our Swedish massage class, that require students to be on campus, the majority of our science and lecture heavy classes are online.
How long does it take to receive my license after completing the program?
This can depend on a few factors, however students can have their license within as little as 3 weeks after completing the program and all its requirements. Keep in mind that in order to be eligible for a license in the state of Texas, students must pass a background check, and their licensing exam. Once both steps have been completed, you may apply for a LMT license. It may take up to 1 - 2 weeks for you to receive a physical copy of your license from TDLR (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation). You can find more information on this process on TDLR's Massage Therapy homepage.
